James Foster was born on the 15 April 1980 at Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone. He attended Woodford Green Prep from 1985-1987, Forest School from 1987-1998 and then went on to Durham Univesity. He was coached by ex-Essex player Stuart Turner while at Forest, and also coached by Joe Hussain, Nasser Hussain’s Father. He played tennis for Great Britain Under 14s and hockey for Essex Under 21s.
